Presenting… 2011’s Girls Rock! Award Winners: Title IX Award
Katy Massey, 17, is a senior at Waterville High School. As a member of the second line of the boys’ varsity ice hockey team, Katy’s speed and skill have made her a critical part of the team’s success. Beginning as a sophomore, Katy was a key contributor to the Class B Championship games and an inspiration to girls everywhere. Katy encouraged her younger sister Lauren to try out for the team (she made it!), and volunteers her time teaching little girls how to skate. Waterville’s lack of a girls’ ice hockey team was not a discouragement to Katy in fulfilling her dream, and her bravery and skill have made her an asset to her team and a role model for girls all over the state.

Thank you for the article on Katy Massey. She truly is a young lady with many gifts, as she is also an outstanding defensive soccer player. Always a good sport, she puts her heart into every game. We are so proud to have her in our family.

Katy– I plan to bring my two daughter 4 and 2 to watch you play one day. You are truly an inspiration to all young people. Keep it up and thank you for being a role model. I hope you play in college!!!!
