Award winner Julia Brown, 16, is a junior at Brunswick High School.  As a key member of her school’s Youth Advocacy Program, Julia had led numerous health initiatives around anti-tobacco use, substance abuse prevention, and the importance of physical activity and good nutrition.  Creating and starring in two series of PSAs at her school — Tobacco-Free Tuesdays and Fermentation-Free Fridays — Julia has continued to demonstrate innovative ways of raising awareness around health issues.  Her special attention to making her peers and greater community aware of the ways that big tobacco executives target girls especially — by promoting smoking as a way to maintain weight, for example — demonstrates Julia’s dedication to campaigning for a healthier Maine for girls.
