The new face(s) of the feminist movement
The face of the feminist movement is changing as girls and young women become empowered to take on pop culture media and other societal pressures through their activist work.
At the core of Hardy Girls Healthy Women’s theory of change is the idea that empowering girls with knowledge, critical thinking skills, and a platform to effect social change is the best way to change the culture in which girls are growing.
On Wednesday’s Maine Calling Hardy Girls’ president Megan Williams, co-founder Lyn Mikel Brown, and two of the girl activists, Izzy and Julia, who took on Seventeen Magazine joined Suzanne Nance to discuss how the definition of girl power is changing and what that means for girls today.
Check out the podcast or stream the segment from the MPBN website and let us know your thoughts on how the pressures on girls, and therefore girls’ responses to them, are evolving.

I totally agree! Empowering girls with knowledge is the first step to change the culture in which girls are living. I always tell my daughters you don’t have to be a grown up to change things. I love that girls and young women are standing up for what they believe in! Together we can change the world for the better!
